Letter from the President August 2024 Letter from the President August 2024 Letter from the President August 2024

6 August 2024

Dear Yale-NUS community and friends,

We are looking forward to the start of Academic Year 2024/2025, which is also our last academic year. This is our final year to create an enriching and memorable campus experience for our community members, one that is fitting of the Yale-NUS spirit which we are so proud of. Being the final batch of Yale-NUS faculty, staff and students on campus, and along with our alumni, we are honoured with the special role of ensuring the College’s legacy lives on, be it through documenting the key moments or forging links with one another. We can’t do this without our friends who have been supporting us through these years, and I thank you for your steadfastness and continued trust in us.

Looking ahead, we are also making good strides in our efforts to build enduring ties. The Yale-NUS Club is now a registered society with the Registry of Societies. This status will allow our alumni to continue operating as an independent society after the College closes in 2025. Read more about the Yale-NUS Club at this link.

I am pleased to share that the ribbon-cutting ceremony of the Yale-NUS College Sculpture will be taking place this Sunday. The sculpture will have its permanent home on campus and bear testimony to our time at Yale-NUS and our unique liberal arts model. I hope you can join us at the event and celebrate with us this important milestone in our legacy building efforts.

We have been working on a series of Legacy projects, namely the Yale-NUS College Sculpture, College Legacy website, Heritage Exhibition wall and Legacy Book. On the College Legacy website, we have released new stories showcasing our vibrant student activities, robust student support ecosystem, philanthropic efforts, dynamic Residential College experiences, and dedication to diversity, equity, and inclusion. I am also pleased to share that the College is embarking on two new Legacy projects: an exhibition to highlight art as practised at the College by our student community, and two anthologies. One will feature creative writing by students and alumni, while the other will comprise an exhibition catalogue and a short history of the art practices at the College. We plan to hold the arts exhibition and launch the anthologies later this year and will share more in due course.

Finally, I thank you for your strong support and look forward to seeing you at upcoming events.

Sincerely,

Joanne Roberts
President, Yale-NUS College
