Learning at Yale-NUS

The entire academic, intellectual, social and cultural environment at Yale-NUS has been designed to equip our students with skills and capacities to live a responsible and fulfilling life in the 21st century. Indeed, at Yale-NUS we seek to educate leaders and citizens who think critically, creatively, and nimbly across disciplines, who inquire even as they pursue beliefs passionately, who thrive in a pluralistic and multicultural environment, and who are citizens of the world. During their time at Yale-NUS, we want students to learn how to learn, not just what to think but how to think, and how to incorporate new knowledge to re-evaluate and reshape their own beliefs.

The innovative curriculum itself is one of the first critical building blocks to this end. Starting with a clean slate, our faculty members have spent over a year incubating a truly ground-breaking set of courses. They are fundamentally global and deeply inter-disciplinary, putting different perspectives and areas of study in direct conversation with one another in both theory and practice. It is also a uniquely interactive curriculum that understands the power of learning experiences beyond the classroom, whether it be through hands-on field excursions, independent research projects, or interactions with faculty in the dining hall.

Learning at Yale-NUS is also very much a communal journey that depends on meaningful interactions and conversations. It is not about solitary study or one-way dissemination of information through lectures, but about vigorous debate, lively discussion, healthy disagreement and constructive discourse. Indeed, at Yale-NUS, our students are are also teachers. Classmates and the faculty are eager to hear ideas and perspectives and see things in new ways as a result.

Academic Regulations

The Academic Regulations refer to the academic policies that guide our students’ academic experience at Yale-NUS. The purpose of these policies is to maintain the academic integrity of the institution, provide standards for the College, and ensure that all students have the resources and guidance they need to succeed.
