Celebrating Academic Excellence
Yale-NUS College offers a four-year programme that confers on all graduates a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) or Bachelor of Science (Honours) degree. At the conclusion of their programme, the College also awards Latin Honours to academically exceptional graduates within the graduating class.
For students enrolled in a five-year double or concurrent degree programme, they are awarded Latin Honours for the Yale-NUS component of their programme if they achieve the relevant criteria.
Categories of Latin Honours
There are three levels of Latin Honours that the College awards: summa cum laude, magna cum laude, and cum laude. The top 5 per cent of each graduating class receives summa cum laude, the next 10 per cent receive magna cum laude, and the next 20 per cent receive cum laude.
Latin Honours at Yale-NUS are based on the Grade Point Average (GPA) – the weighted average grade point on a 5-point scale – of all graded classes a student takes throughout the entire four years of their education at the College. The table below provides an indication of the GPA cut-offs for the three levels of Latin Honours awards:
AWARD | RANGE OF MINIMUM GPA OVER RECENT THREE YEARS |
---|---|
summa cum laude | 4.87 to 4.91 |
magna cum laude | 4.77 to 4.83 |
cum laude | 4.60 to 4.72 |
Commensurate NUS Honours
As of 1 March 2020, Yale-NUS graduates’ transcripts indicate the commensurate National University of Singapore Honours adjacent to the Yale-NUS student’s final GPA, as applicable. Employers, graduate schools, scholarship-awarding organisations or related institutions can refer to either the Yale-NUS graduate’s GPA and/or their commensurate NUS Honours.
COMMENSURATE NUS HONOURS | CRITERIA |
---|---|
Honours (Highest Distinction) | GPA 4.50 and above |
Honours (Distinction) | GPA 4.00 – 4.49 |
Honours (Merit) | GPA 3.50 – 3.99 |
