In 2020, Yale-NUS College undertook a comprehensive review of the Common Curriculum led by an experienced faculty committee. This committee collated and analysed all the data since the last review in 2015, and collected new information from stakeholders through surveys, focus groups, and interviews. The internal report was discussed by the full faculty, and submitted to a distinguished external review panel who conducted a virtual visit in early 2021. As a result of this process, faculty working groups were established to assess changes to the structure of the Common Curriculum in the Humanities and Science programmes. Work on new courses and structures was halted after the August 2021 announcement of the College’s closure in 2025 as no new cohorts would be admitted. Nonetheless, some changes to the Science Curriculum were deemed important to ensure an enhanced academic experience for the Class of 2025: Scientific Inquiry 1 has been replaced by a Science Common Curriculum Distribution Requirement. After Modern Social Thought (MST) is offered in Semester 1 of Academic Year 2022/2023, there will be no team-taught Common Curriculum courses at the College.
