AAUW International Fellowships are awarded for full-time study or research in the United States to women who are not U.S. citizens or permanent residents. Both graduate and postgraduate studies at accredited U.S. institutions are supported. Recipients are selected for academic achievement and demonstrated commitment to women and girls. Recipients return to their home countries to become leaders in business, government, academia, community activism, the arts or scientific fields. Award amounts range from US$18,000 to $30,000.

Award Details: The Aker Scholarship provides funding for Master’s or PhD studies at one of the following universities: Caltech, MIT, Harvard, Stanford, University of Pennsylvania, Oxford, Cambridge, Imperial College London og National University of Singapore (NUS).

Award Details:
The programme enrols 300 students annually in partner academic institutions in three continents. The programme looks for scholars focused on economic and social development back home after completion of the programme.

National of ADB Borrowing member – countries listed on their website, with at least two years of full-time professional working experience (acquired after a university degree) at the time of application.

Application Instructions:
Applicants must apply directly to the academic institution and express interest in being considered for the ADB-JSP.  There is no separate application for the scholarship.

Award Details:
The ASF supports one month to one year of funding for graduate study and/or research as part of a larger mission of cross-cultural exchange between the United States and Scandinavia. Awards for study in Scandinavia range from US$5,000 for grants to US$23,000 for fellowships. Awards for study in the US (open to Scandinavian citizens) range in size depending on country.

Award Details:
Australia Awards Scholarships provide funding opportunities to citizens of participating countries from Asia, the Pacific, the Middle East and Africa, for full-time undergraduate or postgraduate study at Australian institutions. These awards cover the full cost of tuition and provide other financial benefits.

Award Details:
The Boustany Foundation supports academically talented individuals with potential for impact. The award currently funds partial tuition for the Harvard MBA, Cambridge MBA, Cambridge PhD in Philosophy, and Cambridge PhD in Astronomy.

All nationalities, but the MBA scholarships do prioritise candidates of Lebanese descent.

Award Details:
This award is open to students pursuing a one-year Master’s degree in the UK.  Chevening emphasises outstanding leadership as a key element of a strong application and looks for scholars hoping to build positive lasting relationships with the UK.  Applicants from Singapore must have a minimum two years post-graduate work experience in order to apply. A monthly, stipend, travel to and from country, thesis or dissertation grant, cost of an entry clearance visa, tuition fees up to 19,000 GBP, are included. There is a global fee cap of 13,000 GBP for MBA and Masters in Finance students.

Award Details: Offers a scholarship for a Master’s degree, arranges internships on Capitol Hill and at US embassies/consulates, provides mentorship and professional development, and leads to a career in the State Department Foreign Service.

Nationality Eligibility: US citizens who are graduating seniors or alumni and applying to appropriate two-year Master’s programmes. The programme welcomes any undergraduate major and encourages applications from members of minority groups historically underrepresented in the Foreign Service and those with financial need.

The German Academic Exchange Service provides funding for individuals wishing to pursue a Master’s or PhD degree in Germany.  The award varies based on student nationality and subject matter.  A comprehensive list of the scholarships can be found in the DAAD database.

Award Details:
This fund provides up to US$15,000 per year to scholarship recipients who are working to promote social justice issues in the United States while attending a US-accredited graduate programme. Preference is given to applicants with a previous background in the United States and awards are determined based on financial need.

Award Details:
There are three types of Fulbright grants for US citizens and permanent residents: study/research awards, English Teaching Assistant (ETA) Awards, and Fulbright-National Geographic Storytelling awards. Study/research awards are for independent research awarded to students interested in further pursuing research interests abroad in all academic and creative arts fields in one of 150 countries. The Fulbright English Teaching programme provides funding for year-long opportunities to teach English as a second language in over 55 countries. The Fulbright-National Geographic Storytelling Fellowship funds participation in an academic year of storytelling on a globally significant theme. Grants include round-trip transportation to host country, funding to cover room, board, and incidentals. Candidates may only apply for one type of Fulbright U.S. Student grant in a given competition cycle.

US citizens. Preference will be given to applicants whose higher education was undertaken primarily at educational institutions in the United States.

Award Details:
Study must take place in at least two of the programme countries and through part of the EMJMD catalogue of courses. The scholarship covers participation costs, including tuition and other mandatory costs associated with the degree.

Award Details:
Gates-Cambridge provides full-cost scholarships to outstanding applicants from countries outside the UK to pursue a full-time postgraduate degree in any subject available at the University of Cambridge. The Gates Cambridge scholarship is for “intellectually outstanding postgraduate students with a capacity for leadership and a commitment to improving the lives of others.”

Eligibility:
Graduating seniors applying to Cambridge for Graduate School; A citizen of any country outside the UK. Approximately two-thirds of these awards will be offered to PhD students, with approximately 25 awards available in the US round and 55 available in the International round.

Application Instructions:
While applying directly to a graduate programme at the University of Cambridge, Gates-Cambridge applicants indicate their intention to apply for the scholarship and complete an additional essay to be submitted at the same time as the graduate school application.

Award Details:
This international educational exchange program sponsored by the U.S. Government is designed to increase mutual understanding between the people of the United States and the people of other countries. This programme provides grants for graduate study in the United States. Program eligibility and selection procedures vary widely by country of citizenship.

Eligibility:
Students applying to graduate school in the US; Eligibility requirements per country of citizenship differ. Please note years of work experience and age requirements established by country.

For Singaporean applicants: Three years of work experience required, applicants aged 25-35 preferred. Preference to those with little or no US experience given. Encouraged fields of study are: “The United States”, Challenges of Contemporary Society, International Relations, and Education.

Deadline:
For Singaporean applicants, the preliminary deadline is generally in May, followed by a final deadline in July for study starting in August of the next year.

Other Fulbright applicants should consult the relevant websites for eligibility and deadlines.

Disciplines:
Journalism

Award Details:
The Inter American Press Association (IAPA) was established in 1942 to defend and promote the right of the peoples of the Americas to be freely informed through an independent press. Funding is available for American and Canadian reporters, editors and newsroom professionals, early in their careers, to study journalism or related fields at the graduate level at accredited universities in Latin America or the Caribbean; and for Latin American and Caribbean journalists to study similarly in the U.S. or Canada. The award covers US$20,000 with additional benefits based on applicant’s nationality.

Eligibility:
Applicants must be natives of countries in the Western Hemisphere, journalists or students in the final year of their journalism course, be between 21 and 35 years old, be fluent in the language of the country where they will go to study. Journalism students will have to complete their university studies before the start of the scholarship year. Applicants from the United States and Canada should have documentation from a recognised authority confirming fluency in Spanish, or Portuguese for those going to Brazil. Latin American applicants will have to undergo a TOEFL test (Test of English as a Foreign Language).

Award Details:
Multiyear full fellowship covers two-year Master’s degree at Harvard’s Regional Studies-East Asia (RSEA) Program. Students must be planning to pursue a PhD and to return to Asia to teach upon completion of graduate studies.

Students apply directly for admission to the Master’s degree programme.  Eligible candidates admitted into the RSEA Program are automatically considered for the HYI RSEA Master’s Fellowship.

Award Details:
This fellowship covers tuition and a stipend for students who have a demonstrated academic expertise in the above listed disciplines and are pursuing PhD level study at one of the participating schools. The foundation is looking for strong commitment to the application physical sciences as well as intellectual creativity, a professional temperament, and strong ethical values. Students must be “willing to morally commit to make their skills available to the United States in time of national emergency.”

Award Details:
The Knight-Hennessy Scholars graduate programme focuses on a multidisciplinary approach to leadership and provides funding for any graduate or professional degree offered at Stanford University. Successful applicants will show demonstrated academic expertise, kindness, and strong previous leadership experience. The award is open to all nationalities and for students

Eligibility:
All nationalities, within six years of earning your first/bachelor’s degree.

Candidates must apply both for the Knight Hennessy Scholarship as well as admission to a Stanford graduate school. Further details are available on the Knight Hennessy website.

Deadline:
The deadline for the  Knight Hennessy is generally in October.  The deadlines for Stanford graduate programmes range from August to December.

Award Details:
Inlaks Scholarships provide the opportunity to young people with exceptional talent in any field to broaden their vision abroad and improve their skills to operate in society, thus making them a future vehicle of change in their environment. Scholarships are granted to young Indian students to read at top American, European and UK institutions for a full-time Masters, M.Phil or a Doctorate programme.

Eligibility:
Citizens of India. Candidates who are Indian citizens and hold a good undergraduate degree from a recognized institution abroad, must have resided continuously or been employed or have been studying in India, for at least two years, post their return to India to be eligible to apply for the scholarship.

The Institute for Humane Studies offers different tiers of support for graduate students interested in classical liberal/libertarian tradition of individual rights and market economies.

Award Details:
The James Madison Graduate Fellowship award covers US$24,000 towards a Master’s degree in either American history, teaching, or education. Students must be committed to becoming a teacher of American history upon completion of their study. The scholarship can be applied to any US accredited institution based in the United States. All fellowship recipients will also partake in a summer institute on the Constitution, a trademark portion of the fellowship programme.

Award Details:
The Japan-IMF Scholarship Program for Advanced Studies is a two-year programme intended to help Japanese nationals obtaining PhD degrees in macroeconomics and preparing them to work as economists at the International Monetary Fund (IMF). JISP covers all reasonable expenses for two years of graduate study.  All JISP scholars are required to apply to the IMF’s Economist Program (EP) upon completion of their doctoral studies and to accept an EP position if offered. The IMF will not be able to accommodate all JISP scholars who apply for employment at the Fund since there are many applicants for each available position and the selection process is very competitive.

Award Details:
Lee Kuan Yew Scholarships are awarded to enable outstanding Singaporeans who aspire to be leaders in their respective fields and in the community to pursue postgraduate studies at approved universities in and outside Singapore. The scholarship provides a one-off sum and an annual allowance. Scholarship recipients may use these funds to cover tuition fees or other costs.

Award Details:
The McCall MacBain Scholarships programme offers a limited number of fully funded scholarships for a master’s or second-entry professional undergraduate programme at McGill University, as well as numerous smaller awards. The programme seeks individuals who have demonstrated leadership potential and an inner drive to make a positive impact in other people’s lives. It includes a leadership development curriculum and professional mentorship.

Eligibility:
All nationalities, no upper or lower age limit. Applicants must have a Bachelor’s degree or be on track to complete it by the time they enrol into their intended graduate programme or second-entry professional undergraduate programme.

Beyond the full scholarship awardees, applicants who distinguish themselves during the interview process are eligible for up to 80 smaller finalist and regional awards, depending on whether they are Canadian or international.

Award Details:
The NSF Graduate Research Fellowship Programme (GRFP) supports up to three years of graduate study in the sciences and social sciences at a US institution. Those who are eligible are US citizens, nationals, or permanent residents who are   The fellowship includes US$34,000 plus a cost-of-education allowance of US$12,000 annually for three years of support.

Nationality Eligibility:
US citizens and non-US citizens who have eligibility to work in the US, graduating seniors or recent alumni (without any graduate study to date) applying for eligible graduate programmes, or those in the first or second year of such a programme. The GRFP encourages applications from underrepresented groups, including women, minorities, persons with disabilities, and veterans, in order to broaden and diversify those participating in science and engineering.

Award Details:
This award is for Singaporeans citizens who intend to pursue graduate study at top universities overseas for doctoral degrees and intend to return to Singapore to teach upon completion of their degree at NUS. The scholarship may provide full or partial salary, two sets of economy-class return airfare for travel between Singapore and place of study, tuition fees and other compulsory fees, settling-in allowance, book allowance, thesis allowance, conference grants, and medical insurance conference.

Award Details:
The USAID Donald M. Payne International Development Graduate Fellowship Program seeks to attract outstanding individuals who are interested in pursuing careers in the Foreign Service of the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID). The Payne Fellowship, which provides up to $96,000 in benefits over two years for graduate school, internships, and professional development activities, is a unique pathway to the USAID Foreign Service.

Award Details:
The Public Service Commission (PSC) Master’s Scholarship is for undergraduates who are keen to pursue a Master’s degree upon graduation. The scholarship is tenable for up to 2 years of study at both overseas and local universities. The scholarship is not offered for MBA programmes, and the course of study should be in an area relevant to the work of the Civil Service, as approved by the PSC. Upon graduation, scholarship holders will be emplaced on the Public Service Leadership Programme and developed for generalist or sectoral leadership positions within the Public Service. Scholarship holders will embark on their Public Service career at an appropriate ministry or statutory board depending on the Public Service’s manpower needs and their suitability for the position.

Award Details:
The programme provides scholarships for selected women from countries other than the United States and Canada for graduate study in the United States and Canada. Members of P.E.O. believe that education is fundamental to world peace and understanding. The maximum amount awarded to a student is $12,500. Lesser amounts may be awarded according to individual needs.

Award Details:
The Rhodes Scholarship provides funding towards graduate study at Oxford. Selection of Rhodes Scholars is based on academic excellence, strong leadership skills, and directed energy towards extracurricular achievements. The scholarship covers all university and college fees, the application fee, personal stipend, private health insurance, one economy class airfare to Oxford at the start of the programme and one at the completion of the programme.

Eligibility:
All nationalities. Rhodes offers scholarships in over 22 designated geographic constituencies, as well as Global Rhodes Scholarships.  Candidates should consult the Rhodes website for more details about the requirements for their constituency.

Application Instructions:
For the USA, Canada and Global Rhodes, candidates must seek institutional endorsement from Yale-NUS College. The decision of institutional endorsement rests with the College President, who receives recommendations from a faculty panel. The faculty panel conducts an interview and reviews the candidate’s application materials.

For other constituencies, no institutional endorsement is required. Applicants can apply directly online.  Please note that Rhodes applicants are not allowed to receive any feedback on their personal statement.

Deadline:
The internal Yale-NUS deadline for those who require institutional endorsement for Global Rhodes is at the end of June. The internal Yale-NUS deadline for those who require institutional endorsement for USA and Canada is in the beginning of August. Details will be posted on Symplicity.  Deadlines for other Rhodes scholarships vary based on the country of application.

In the Academic Year 2020-21, the United States, Canada, Global Rhodes and Yenching Academy are likely to require Yale-NUS to submit an institutional endorsement on behalf of any candidates applying.

Endorsement Process

The decision of institutional endorsement rests with the College President, who receives recommendations from a faculty panel. The faculty panel examines the applicant’s academic proposal, personal statements, and any other materials required by the application.

Except for Rhodes applicants (who are not allowed to receive any feedback on their application), all applicants who receive an institutional endorsement will also receive constructive feedback from the faculty panel in order to make revisions to enhance their application.

Award Details:
Rotary Peace Fellows are leaders promoting national and international cooperation, peace, and the successful resolution of conflict throughout their lives, in their careers, and through service activities. Fellows can earn a Master’s degree in peace and development issues at select universities.

Eligibility:
All nationalities, minimum three years work experience. Proficiency in English is required, and proficiency in a second language is recommended.

Award Details:
Schwarzman Scholars will enroll in a one-year Master’s Degree at Tsinghua University in Beijing while living in on the campus of Schwarzman College. Comprehensive scholarship including tuition, fees, room and board, travel to and from Beijing, an in-country study tour, books, supplies, health insurance, and personal stipend. Schwarzman Scholars programme aims to prepare a network of leaders who will serve as bridges between China and the rest of the world. There are no requirements for a specific field of undergraduate study, but it is important for applicants, regardless of undergraduate major, to articulate how participating in Schwarzman Scholars will help develop their leadership potential within their field.

International scholars will enrol in a Master’s programme studying at Yenching Academy. The scholarship includes tuition fees, round trip airfare to Beijing, accommodation, and living costs on the Peking University campus. The Yenching programme places an “emphasis on interdisciplinarity and the value it assigns to thinking about China’s development from both Chinese and international perspectives.”

The decision of institutional endorsement rests with the College President, who receives recommendations from a faculty panel. The faculty panel conducts an interview and reviews the candidate’s application materials. After receiving the institutional endorsement, applications are submitted directly online.

The internal endorsement deadline for Yale-NUS is generally in mid-November. The deadline for external submission to Yenching is in December.

Award Details: This fully-funded programme allows undergraduates from across the globe to participate in cutting-edge research opportunities at several universities in Asia. A signature component of the programme is the symposium where students hear firsthand from leading scientists working in industry and academia. Students will be evaluated on previous research experience and academic expertise, and students with an intent to apply to PhD programmes will be considered favourably.

Award Details: Fellows receive a US$6,420 award for the ten-week programme that introduces students to research under the guidance of seasoned research mentors at Caltech. Continuing undergraduate students who have completed at least a second semester at Yale-NUS and are in good academic standing are encouraged to apply.

Award Details: This partially-funded programme enables students to undertake research attachments for eight weeks at the Chinese University of Hong Kong during under the supervision of a CUHK faculty member. There are also cultural activities and excursions.

Award Details: This funded programme enables students to pursue 2-3 months of research in engineering, science or technologythe École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL), including research seminars, workshops and cultural activities.

Award Details: This funded programme enables students to pursue 8 weeks of lab research immersion alongside faculty and science staff from the École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL), including research seminars, workshops and cultural activities.

Award Details: This funded programme enables students to pursue a 3-month research fellowship at the School of Computer and Communication Sciences of the École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL), including research seminars, workshops and cultural activities.

The decision of institutional endorsement rests with the College President, who receives recommendations from a faculty panel. The faculty panel examines the applicant’s academic proposal, personal statements, and any other materials required by the application.

The Public Service Commission (PSC) Master’s Scholarship is for undergraduates who are keen to pursue a Master’s degree upon graduation. The scholarship is tenable for up to 2 years of study at both overseas and local universities. The scholarship is not offered for MBA programmes, and the course of study should be in an area relevant to the work of the Civil Service, as approved by the PSC.
