Requirements for the Minor in Global Antiquity
To achieve the minor, students must:
- Complete 25 unit in courses cross-listed with Global Antiquity. None of these courses can be used to fulfil criteria for any other programme of study.
- The 25 unit must include 5 unit in a post-Beginners level course in an ancient language.
-
- Acceptable 5 unit courses that fulfil this requirement: Classical Chinese; Intermediate ancient Greek or higher; Intermediate Latin or higher; Intermediate Sanskrit or higher; or an equivalent course as approved by the Minor Advisor.
- A 2 unit Independent Language Study & Research course (ILSR) at intermediate level or above will also fulfill the prerequisite for the minor provided that the ILSR is letter graded.
- Please note that the first Beginning level ancient language course cannot be counted towards the Minor. All subsequent Beginning level ancient language courses can be counted towards the Minor once a student has taken an Intermediate level course. These additional Beginning level courses may be counted retroactively if taken before the Intermediate level.
-
The minor in Global Antiquity promotes a comparative, transregional approach, and students are strongly encouraged to pursue studies in at least two different ancient traditions. Comparable courses taken through off-campus study or otherwise currently not cross-listed may be approved at the discretion of the Faculty Coordinator.
Courses taken for a course cannot be double-counted toward the minor, and all courses for the minor taken at Yale-NUS or NUS must have a letter grade.
