Award Winners

The Class of 2017 Award is presented to Betina Andrea Kapunan Choa for outstanding contributions to the College as selected by the senior class. This award is made possible through the generosity of Mrs Doris Sohmen-Pao.

The Sheila N Hayre Prize for Outstanding Capstone Project in Law and Liberal Arts for 2021 is awarded to Daniel Wong Sheng Jie. This prize is made possible through the generosity of Yale-NUS founding president, Professor Pericles Lewis.

The Bernard Bate Prize for Outstanding Capstone Project in Anthropology for 2021 is awarded to Ng Zhao Yi Alston. This prize is made possible through the generosity of the colleagues and friends of the late Professor Bernard Bate.

‘Dear First Year Me’ is a series where our graduating seniors reflect on their time at Yale-NUS by writing letters to their first-year selves.

Orientation: Take Flight

Orientation is the official start to the Yale-NUS College education and the chance for first-year students to meet their classmates, immerse themselves into the community and the larger campus life, and learn about the resources at Yale-NUS College. In 2017, theme for orientation was “Take flight”, which represented how the College is ready to soar to greater heights, having marked a key foundational milestone with the successful graduation of its first class.

First Year Assembly ’17

On 11 August 2017, weeks of orientation culminated in First Year Assembly ‘17, an annual ceremony where new students are formally welcomed by the Yale-NUS College community. Aside from speeches by key College figures, the ceremony also featured a performance by the Yale-NUS Barbershop Chorus.

Week 7 LAB Symposium 2017

In the Week 7 Learning Across Boundaries (LAB) programme, first-year students, faculty and staff engage inlearning projects of up to a week that explore themes of the Common Curriculum outside the confines of a traditional classroom. Week 7 LAB projects are faculty-generated initiatives that are organised in collaboration with the Centre for International & Professional Experience (CIPE).
